Wound healing is the process of replacement of destroyed or damaged tissue by newly formed tissue.
The vitamins and minerals needed for proper wound healing include vitamin c, vitamin A,zinc, copper and iron.
There are four different phases of wound healing
(A). Hemostasis: It is the process in which wound is closed with clotting. Hemostasis begins once the blood leaks out of the body. In this blood vessels are constricted first to restrict blood flow. Then the accumulation of platelets occure to form a seal over the wound site.
(B) Inflammatory phase: In this phase destroyed cells, pathogens and bacteria are abolished from the wound site. In this stage there will be common symptoms like heat, pain, redness and heat at wound site.
(C). Proliferation stage: In this phase the wound is regenerated with new granulation tissue enriched with collagen and extracellular matrix. Then new network of blood vessels are formed in this by a process called angiogenesis.
(D).Maturation phase: It is also known as remodeling stage of wound healing. It is actually a maturation phase in which collagen remodeling happened from type 3 to type 1 and wound is fully closed. The remaining cells that are no longer needed are removed from the wound site by programmed cell death.
