Transcultural theory was proposed by Madeleine Leininger .Its is a modern nursing theory that states the importance of knowing cultural similarities and differences among human beings and how the nurse needs to know the cultural beliefs and practises and how it can affect the treatment ,illness or diagnosis for the patient
Evidence based practise basically deals with three components
Patient values
Clinical experience
And scientific evidence
Analysing these 3 components and its relation with transcultural theory it is clear that certain cultural practises can be a part of evidenced based practise
For example
Use of termic to bath in south india is a cultural belief of purification ,but scientifically it is proven that termeric has antiseptic properties and unknowing they have been practising it in daily life
Working in areas of different cultural beliefs gives the nurse clinical experinece to know how to modify treatment methods or counsell thr patient.eg family planning customs or practises
Patient values are itself a main component in evidence based practice which can influnece the treatment or recovery of the patient such as prayers ,rituals which are not going to cause any harm to the sick patient
Therefore transcultural theory can be applied in evidence based practise which can benefit the health team in treating the patient, modifying methods according to patients beliefs, and improve the communication between patient and health care team
