Preoperative phase

  • The preoperative phase is the time period between the decision to have surgery and the beginning of the surgical procedure.
  • The preoperative period runs from the time the patient is admitted to the hospital or surgicenter to the time that surgery begins.


Intraoperative phase

  • The intraoperative phase is the phase that begins from the time the client is admitted to the room where the operation will be done, to the time anesthesia is administered, the performance of the surgical procedure and until the client is transported to the recovery room or to the postanethesia care unit


Postoperative phase

The postoperative phase of the surgical experience extends from the time the client is transferred to the recovery room or postanesthesia care unit to the moment he or she is transported back to the surgical unit, discharged from the hospital until the follow-up care

  • Ectomy: removes a diseased part of the body.
  • Wound healing: repair of multiple wounds.
  • Implantation :Restores function or appearance that was lost or reduced.
  • Lab test : confirm or establish a medical diagnosis
  • Transplantation: replaces malfunctioning structures. For example, kidney transplant.
