Spontaneous bruising or easy or sudden bruising caused by many reasons like aspirin use, an infection that cause toxin buildup in the tissues, bleeding disorder, etc. Normal PT/PTT indicates platelet disorder or platelet function abnormality. positive family history increases the risk of a bleeding disorder. many medications lower the platelet count by suppressing bone marrow production of platelets.clinical significance of platelet count in the evaluation of spontaneous bruising include vascular injuries, platelet deficiencies, coagulation protein deficiencies, usage of antithrombotic medications, anticoagulant pathway disorder, etc.
easy bruising occurs if the endothelial defect is major, exposed subendothelial proteins interact with coagulation factors, and platelets to make clots. low platelet counts occur in patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia that makes the platelet counts become low.
