Discuss the significance of platelet count in the evaluation of spontaneous bruising.
Spontaneous bruising or easy or sudden bruising caused by many
reasons like aspirin use, an infection that cause toxin buildup in
the tissues, bleeding disorder, etc. Normal PT/PTT indicates
platelet disorder or platelet function abnormality. positive family
history increases the risk of a bleeding disorder. many medications
lower the platelet count by suppressing bone marrow production of
platelets.clinical significance of platelet count in the evaluation
of spontaneous bruising include vascular injuries, platelet
deficiencies, coagulation protein deficiencies, usage of
antithrombotic medications, anticoagulant pathway disorder,
etc.
easy bruising occurs if the endothelial defect is major, exposed
subendothelial proteins interact with coagulation factors, and
platelets to make clots. low platelet counts occur in patients with
heparin-induced thrombocytopenia that makes the platelet counts
become low.
