What is the significance of the CD4+ count?
CD4 count is like a mirror of how well is your Immune syatem and how effective it works against Infection and Inflamation. CD4 cells (also known as CD4+ T cells) are white blood cells that fight infection.
Its a cells get destroyed by HIV Virus. The quantity of this cells decresses as the HIV Infection grows.
The CD4 count drops below 200 because of HIV infection, a individual is diagnosed with AIDS.
A normal range for CD4 cells is about 500-1,500.
The reasons why your CD4 count can drop: If you have any kind of infection such as cold, flu or fever then it can cause your CD4 to drop. If someone is infected by immune deficiency illness such as cancer or HIV, this can also reduces their CD4 count.
To improve CD4 count: ART (antiretroviral therapy) stops HIV from replicating. The main aim is to reduce your viral load to an undetectable level (less than 50 copies/mL). As your viral load goes down, your immune system start to repair itself. This means that your CD4 count will slowly go up to higher levels again.
A lab test that measures the number of CD4 T lymphocytes (CD4 cells) throug a sample of blood. In people with HIV, the CD4 count is the most important laboratory indicator of immune function and the strongest predictor of HIV progression. The CD4 count is one of the factors used to determine when to start antiretroviral therapy (ART). The CD4 count is also used to monitor response to ART.
