How do the dimensions of health relate to stress? Analyze the causes of stress (stressors) in your own life and which dimensions of health the stress is related to. Tell about a time you were under great stress and did not manage it well – How did you respond to the stressor? And how did the stress impact you? What are some ways you could have managed it differently now that you know more about stress?
Q) If a person is disease free, it does not mean he or she is healthy .There are six dimensions of a healthy person they are 1) Physical,2)Social, 3) Emotional, 4) Intellectual, 5) Occupational or financial, and 6) Spiritual wellness.
If there is a slight disturbance in any of these six aspects, there will be complete imbalance of the person.
Physical wellness indicates the general health of a person, if there is pain in body or the person is suffering from some diseases, than the physical wellness gets disturbed .Social wellness indicates how the person interacts with other or in society, if he is not able to meet a minimum standard in his interaction than his social wellness is disturbed.
Emotional wellness indicates how a person feels inside, negative thought sad feelings are indicators of poor emotional wellness. Intellectual wellness is a person pursuing his level of intellectual stimulation, meeting to it, it indicates the person is intellectually well.
Occupational or financial wellness, it increases or decreases with job satisfaction, it means weather the person is happy in his occupation or not, if he is financially unstable it indicates there is some issue in his occupational satisfaction. Spiritual wellness is finding meaning and purpose in life, this includes religious believes, or seeing good in others, if there is no satisfaction than it is considered the spiritual wellness is disturbed.
These are the six dimensions of health and their relationships with stress.
Stressor is a biological, chemical, environmental factor or an event which causes stress to a person, being a student falling ill at the time of exam, affected my studies, which increased stress at mental or emotional level, the fear of securing less mark hunted the mind, the physical wellness as well as the emotional wellness gets impacted, putting stress on me affecting my intellectual wellness, as the stress caused so much impact that I am not able to focus well on the subjects. As a result it impacted my scoring in the exam leading to poor marks in the semester.
When a person is under stress, the hypothalamus conveys signals to the autonomic nervous system and the pituitary gland as a result body starts producing epinephrine and cortisol, these are called the stress hormones. They give body energy to run away from the situation.
In this case of developing illness at the time of exam, I got stressed which led me to poor results, as the performance was low it affected my future endeavors.
As I know more about stress, this condition could have dealt with some other way by keeping faith or patience on self, spiritual wellness methods like meditation, as well as the physical fitness strategies would have made me stress free. some light exercises could have helped me reduce my worries and would have helped me in recovering as well as keeping my balance well, regarding intellectual point of view, I should have read the materials well throughout the year which might have created a self confidence in me helping me to score well, besides having very less time after a prolonged illness. These are some of the methods I could have used to manage stress well and do well in the exam.
