Suppose you are interested in the behaviors of physicians that have high ratings of patient satisfaction.

Suppose you are interested in the behaviors of physicians that have high ratings of patient satisfaction. The research goal is to identify the behaviors in the natural clinical settings of these successful physicians so that these behaviors can be built into the curricula of medical preparation programs. The main data were collected by the video recording of five randomly selected physician-patient encounters from 10 physicians who have been rated highly by patients in a reliable satisfaction survey. Assume that you reviewed the literature on physician communication skills as a major component of patient satisfaction. Based on this idea, what might be some of the initial codes that you could use to label the data units? How would you justify this set of codes in your research report?

Solutions

Expert Solution

We can't study the physician communication skills as all the physicians have the same abilities and behaviors. But we can assume some comments intial codes like, greeting, friendly, professionalism.

These are some basic codes to label the data unit's. Initially the patient goes to see the doctor first at that time doctor will greet the patient, then when consulting the patient physician will make the patient comfortable by being friendly so that patients will open up and will say their problems more freely,

And if the doctors are more skilled patients can be more satisfied with their treatment and also if doctor is able to clear the patient mindset about not to compare with others and how to take care to relieve from the pain etc.

This is the best explanation to understand the above said codes and also the basic ones which anyone can tell.

Suppose these physicians are interested in further investigating abnormal chromosomal development. They recruit 6 women from a local hospital who meet the following requirements: they have had at least 1 pregnancy loss (miscarriage) in their lifetime, and 2) their doctors properly documented their levels of PAPP-A in the first trimester of each pregnancy. PAPP-A is used as a measure of fetal chromosomal development during the first trimester of development. Low levels of PAPP-A have been associated with many fetal chromosomal...
