Suckling bt the baby in a innervate slow adapting and Rapid adapting mechanoceptor that are densely packed around the areolar region. The electrical impulse follows the spinothalamic tract, which begins by innovation of 4th intercostal nerve. The electrical impulse then ascend the posterolateral tract for one or two vertebral levels and synapses with second order neurones, called track cells, in the posterior dorsal horn. The track cells then decussate via anterior white commissioner to the anterior lateral corner and ascend to the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus in the hypothalamus, where the synapse with Oxytocinergic third order neurons. The somas of these neurones are located in the hypothalamus, but their axon and axon on terminal are located in the infundibulum and pass nervosa of the posterior pituitary gland respectively. The Oxytocin is produced in the neurones soma in the supraoptic and paraventricular nucleus, and is then transported down the infundibulum via the hypothalamus neuro hypophyseal tract with the help of carrier protein, neurophysin 1, to the pars nervosa of the posterior pituitary, and then stored in herrings bodies, where they are stored until the synapse between second and third order neurones.

Following the electrical impulse, Oxytocin is released into the bloodstream. Through the bloodstream Oxytocin makes its way to myoepithelial cells, which lie between the extracellular matrix and luminal epithelial cells that also make a the alveoli in the breast tissue. When Oxytocin binds to the myoepithelial cells, the cells contract. The increased intra aveolar pressure forces milk into the lactiferous sinuses, into the lectoferous duct. And then out the nipple.
