CRITICAL THINKING:
1) Kelley went to the Emergency Room complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath. Her ECG results were normal, and she was released with the instruction to make an appointment at your office within a week. The physician has ordered stress testing for Kelley, but she tells you that her symptoms have passed and she doesn’t want to do it. What can you say to convince her to follow the doctor’s orders?
2) Why are patients asked to record all activities and emotional states and the time of their occurrences in their Holter monitor activity diaries?
Answer 1:
I will try to convince her by telling her that these minute symptoms can be a sign of fatal heart disease like myocardial infarction or ischemic heart disease. I will tell her that many people ignores these small symptoms later on when they becomes serious that can took their life away. I will ask her to go through stress test so that further fatal heart disease can be prevented.
Answer 2:
The patient are advised to note all activities and emotional states and time of their occurance in order to determine the cause behind the chest pain. Even activities record can tell us which activities should be ignored to get relief from pain. These records can also indicate the fatal heart disease so that respective tests can be performed for correct diagnosis.
