(1) Give me an example on how resource scarcity can make effective teams important
(2) Trying to make decisions based on consensus is a very popular method in many meetings. Tell me, in your own words, why you think this method is so prevalent. Also tell me what the downsides are to using consensus?
1. Resource management software solutions like project and portfoio management (PPM) address the challenges of lack of knowledge of what people are working on and because of a lack of resources whether projects will be delayed.
Example in Higher education:
In a University there faced a variety of challenges, including:
a) a struggle to maintain resource data.
b) for decision making, a lack of real_time data.
c) lck of communication between project managers and resource managers.
d) delay in tracing on commitements of resources.
To address these challenges, they deployed a demand and capacity management tool for resource scheduling. Now the university is able to make sure that resources are working on the right projects. After making effective demand and capacity management tools they experianced an improved accuracy in their datas about reources, and that institution has more than 12,000 resource requests at present. Due to the changes made, the system now quickly provide valuable data to higher management like seniors, project managers and resource managers.
2. Decision making based on consensus are very prevelent in group meetings because it helps in decision-making processes by making participants to develop and decide on ideas with the aim or requirements. It allows al the members to actively participate in all activities within the group by making a commitement to work together and increase cooperation among workers. Consensus means a General Agreement or assignment.
It also helps in shared understanding through discussions and equalise power in a group.
The drawbacks of consensus decision-making are:
a) leaders tends to holdback their opinions to avoid disunity in their groups. This reduce their authority and ability to lead firmly.
b) they take less initiatives when outcomes may not be well with everyone. This misses opportunities for improvement .
c) When they fail to achieve consenses, they struggle with decisions . this reduces trust within the group.
d) They ignore their personal needs as they listen to everyone else . Thus causing fatigue and stress , anger and burnouts.
