A large component of wood is cellulose. When burned, the energy from cellulose is converted in large part into heat and light, the matter in converted into water and carbon dioxide. compare and contrast this conversion to what occurs when glycogen is oxidized in cells to make ATP. Include two significant similarities and two differences.
Cellulose and glycogen are different form of carbohydrates which present in plant and animal respectely.
Wood burn outside enviroment is very rapid way ang most of energy is wasted in form of heat and light which goes untraped while in glycogen present inside cell undergo slow process of oxidation by process of glycolysis, TCA cycle and electron transport chain. And during each process small amount of energy released which is used to convert ATP. So here energy loss in form of heat and energy is less compared to cellulose burnout.
So significant difference- cellulose is having structural role in plant which glycogen act amas source of energy in animal.
Cellulose present under go rapid oxidation to release energy in form of heat and light and produced whileno ATP glycogen slow oxidatio and hence formed ATP
While similarities
Both are form of complex carbohydrates where glucose is building block.
Both can undergo oxidation process to release energy.
Hope it's clear..thanks
