1. Fetal heart rate

ASSESSMENT:

  • It measures the heart rate and rhythm of the baby( fetus).
  • This lets the healthcare provider see how the baby is doing.
  • Healthcare provider may do fetal heart monitoring during late pregnancy and labor.
  • The average fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute
  • If the baby's heart rate accelerates twice or more a certain amount within a 20 minute period the results are considered reactive and 2 points will be given
  • If not enough accelerations occur within a 40 minute period, the results are considered as nonreactive and 0 points will be given.

INSTRUMENT

  • A fetoscope( a type of stethescope) is the most basic type of external monitor
  • Hand held electronic doppler ulrasound device

CRITERIA

  • The baseline rate is interpreted as changes if the alteration persists for more than 15 minutes.
  • Prematurity, maternal anxiety and maternal fever, while fetal maturity decreases the baseline rate

2. Fetal breathing

ASSESSMENT

  • If the baby displays at least one episode of rhythmic breathing for 30 seconds or more within 30 minutes, 2 points will be given.
  • If the baby breathing doesn't meet the criteria, 0 points will be given.

INSTRUMENT

  • Ultrasonic pulsed doppler instrument

CRITERIA

  • Criteria was based on the absence of rapid eye movements and increased fetal movement with changes in heart rate.

3.Fetal movement

ASSESSMENT

  • The simplest one is to record the amount of time it takes for the mother to feel 10 movements sucha as kicks, rolls or jabs.
  • If the baby moves his or her body or limbs three times or more within 30 minutes, 2 points will be given
  • If the baby's movements dont meet the criteria 0 points will be given

INSTRUMENT

  • fetal movements recorder
  • It is done by kick counting. counting the number of kicks feel from the baby in the uterus in acertain time period

CRITERIA

  • Daily fetal movement counting such as with count to ten kick carts, acceptability and feasibility criteria was used to guide the formulation and approval of recommendations by the guideline development group

4.Fetal tone

ASSESSMENT

  • If the baby moves a limb from a bent position to an extended position and quickly back to bent position, 2 points will be given.
  • IIf the baby muscle tone doesn't meet the criteria, 0 points will be given

  • Fetal stethescope

  • Vintzileo's criteria for scoring the biophysical profile

5. Amniotic fluid volume

ASSESSMENT

  • The ultrasound technician will look for the largest visible pocket of amniotic fluid.
  • To obtain a score of 2 points, the pocket must be a certain size.
  • If the amniotic fluid level doesn't meet the criteria, 0 points will be given
