Foodborne pathogens are the microorganisms such as bacteria or parasites in the food which can cause severe illness or infection that can lead to death.

1.The most harmful pathogen that lead to stillbirths is bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.  Raw fruits and vegetables which are treated with sewage fertilizer mainly carries this pathogen. This is a aneorobic bacteria which can live without the presence of oxygen. It can grow at temperatures as low as 0°C. this allows the multiplication at typical refrigeration temperatures, greatly increasing its ability to evade control in human foodstuffs.

2. The foods suspected of carrying the pathogen are mainly vegetables. it can be present in the raw milk too.. It can also live in food processing plants and contaminate a variety of processed meats. all these get contaminated by the bacteria present in the soil and water and some animals, including poultry and cattle.

3. Methods of prevention.

The main method to prevent the foodborne disease is safe and hygienic measures.

  1. Wash the raw vegetables thoroughly in water before cooking.
