Child Psychologist David Elkind has called today's child the "hurried child." Do you believe that children today are stressed and over scheduled? Why, or why not?
Yes , indeed today's child is the " hurried child" as termed by David Elkind. Today the children are paying price with their childhood innocences to the over expectations and perfections to be a miniature adults of their parents are teachers. Children are hurried to be perfect miniature adults, they are viewed more as objects to attain perfection in academics, sports ,arts and other activities. They are overloaded with schedules of excelling. Parents and teachers forget that they are children, human beings with feelings, dignity and their own set of opinions and choices. Instead of investing in growing needs, interests and abilities, today's children are hurried with overwhelming competitions of meeting benchmarks. This hurrying attitude towards children develop a lot of psycholgical problems in them as rebellion, poor self image, learning disability, burnout, stress and anxiety, neuroses etc ,that is becoming more common in today's world.
