(The performance theory- goal-setting). Apply the selected performance theory on either a coworker who does only the minimum work required but nothing more or an employee who complains constantly about patients. Describe the theory and based on the theory, develop strategies to help the employee.
Performance theory mainly focuses on quality and safety of nursing care to the patients.Performance measurement in nursing has been significantly slow to develop ,compared with acute care and long-term care nursing. Also , a certain number of problems arise related to lack of care cordination, inappropriate wait and occurence of adverse events. The performance thoery aims at producing positive changes in a patient's condition as a result of providing nursing care ,tranforming nursing resources into nursing care , and acquiring ,deploying and maintaining nursing resources.
Strategies to help the employee are :
- Change initiatives must always be implemented for good reason within the context of advancing institutional goals and objectives.
- Balancing a change is the key factor within patient and family to provide safe and reliable patient care.
- Through effective communication , the problem can be solved.
- Planning, implementing and making adequate interventions, and implementation in health setting reduces the problem.
- Critical thinking palys an important role in giving care for the patient.
- Provide feedback and positive reinforcement .
- Successfully implementing a strategice change often requires getting individuals to change their behaviours.
