Please using your OWN words give a response to the segment below. Can be anything like do you agree or disagree? Why or why not? Add anything to this statement.

To me, privacy is the right to keep information confidential and out of public knowledge. Privacy is a fundamental right, essential to autonomy and the protection of human dignity, serving as the foundation upon which many other human rights are built (PI, 2017). I do believe privacy is a moral right. Privacy gives us, as human beings, a space to be ourselves without judgment, allows us to think freely without discrimination, and is an important element of giving us control over who knows what about us (PI, 2017). I do not believe there are any cases which public health policy justifies the violation of the right to privacy. The healthcare team should reach out to the patient and notify them before they release any information, and the patient should consent to the information being released.

Expert Solution

  • I agree with this segment of keeping the privacy of someone confidential. It is a crucial element when it comes in case of clients admitted to hospitals.
  • A patient gives his or her complete details when admitting to the hospital.
  • It is our duty as nurses to keep our client's information safe unless and until it is asked by the court of law for any investigation.
  • Also keeping privacy of a patient's information is necessary to avoid social stigma in the society.
  • For eg. If a client who is admitted for a major surgery is diagnosed to have HIV infection when doing his blood studies, it is very much important to keep that information private and within the hospital personnel only.
  • Thus right to privacy means it is a person's right to keep his information confidential from public if he or she is not under any criminal or civil cases under investigation.

Note: Every individual has the right to privacy. Violation of privacy rights of a patient will not come under professionalism.
