Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker which comes under category of dihydropyridine type . It is used to treat coronary artery disease and high blood pressure.

Contraindications

1- It is contraindicated in patient having allergy to amlodipine or any dihydropyridines.

2- amlodipine is contraindicated in severe aortic stenosis as it can cause collapse .

3- cardiogenic shock where CCB prevent flow of calcium ions in cardiac cells , so ventricles are not able to pump enough blood .

4- patient with hypotension can have severe hypotension and pulmonary edema can be precipated in patient having heart failure .

Precautions

1- chest pain and chest discomfort and tachycardia and pain in left arms , jaws can results in angina or heart attack . Visit to doctor if it increases in intensity .

2- fainting , vertigo , peripheral edema , dizziness can results , just take some rest at that moment and contact doctor .

3- bleeding gums , swelling and tenderness may appear after use of amlodipine started. Massaging gums and easy brushing can prevent this .

4- swelling , pain , nausea is common side effects of use of amlodipine .
