MCO's is defined as Managed Care Organization
which is a type of healthcare delivery system which is organized to
manage cost, it's utilization and quality. These organization have
agreements with certain doctors, hospitals and healthcare providers
to provide care to the people at affordable cost.
The main three types of MCO's are as
follows:-
- HEALTH MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATION:- Also known
as HMO, they offer a patients a range of health benefits including
preventive care for a set monthly fees. In this Primary Care
Physician is responsible for indiviual's general health care and
providing referrrals in case if necessary. HMO's generally provide
preventive care such as well baby clinic, immunization, lab tests
at lower out of pocket costs to you.
- PREFERRED PROVIDER ORGANIZATION:- PPO is
similar to that of HMO in which indiviual pays a fixed fee for
treatment and co- payments when they visit the physician. PPO
generally covers expenses with smaller percentage if a client seeks
or want to take treatment from outside of plan.
- POINT OF SERVICES:- POS is another type of
managed care organization in which health care is provided at lower
cost even it is lower than HMO and PPO. In this if the client wants
to referr itself outside of the plan the point of service plan
covers all or most of the bill costs. Client will have to pay only
small percentage of bill.
