the three types of definitions are formal definition, informal definition and extended definition.
The formal definition is a full sentence that separates the term from other like terms. This definition contains three parts- First, the term itself .Second, a class to which the term belongs like a noun or a verb, and distinguishing features of the term.
Informal definition which is a word or brief phrase often used by writer to explain an unknown term. It is like synonyms or antonyms. This definition does not include distinguishing feautures.
Extended definition which is expanded or long description start with formal definition and create more several paragraphs like essay. This definition uses different rhetorical patterns to show meaning of a particular term or concept.
2-What are three methods to create an extended definition?
Three methods/techniques are-
The first method is to List and describe the parts. for example- identify the smaller yet more familiar pieces of an idea to point to the definition of the bigger concept.
second method is Etymology in which we would explain and share the origin of the word itself.
Third is the use of Examples or anecdotes. for example telll a story or example that illustrates the term.
