Reflect on Cultural Norms that you Conform and Non-Conform with and provide detailed examples
Cultural norms are part of individual life which he or she practices in their day-to-day activities. It can be norms which are shared, sanction and integrated systems of beliefs and practices which characterize culture. Norms guide a person in his or her daily living. Cultural norms even foster daily living and contribute to good health and well being.
Confirming over cultural norms is a psychological concept like whatever our ancestors have done we are just following it but sometimes it has its own scientific background when we analyse why do we follow it? cultural norms we learn from parents, teachers ,friends and others. In some places women are made to cover her body from head to toe but just a bikini is required to cover the body. Therefore cultural norms help us to follow certain discipline in life. Another example of Sweeping house at night is not allowed is the belief but the reality or scientific reason is fear of losing small things at night as in olden days, there was no power connectivity so sweeping at night was not allowed.
There are certain cultural norms which we need not confirm like when eating we are not supposed to talk but these norms can be nullified because during dining time if we have conversation family bond will be strengthened. Therefore we did not confirm over such norms.
To conclude cultural norms brings meaning and coherence to life. Which in turn leads to a sense of integrity, safety and belongingness. Therefore values which are set in the form of norms create order and control upon various aspects of life..
