do you think most people do the right thing out of habit or reason? Describe in 150 words
I speak in general terms however I feel that most people do the “right” thing more out of habit than reason. We grow up in an environment of wherein there are written laws and procedures as well as commonly acknowledged social notions of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Since childhood, our parents, teachers, peers and import figures of authority impart these messages to us. By the time we are adults, we implicitly develop a habit of how we should be behaving, according to what is “right”.
If it were really reason that guided one’s actions of right and wrong, we would find that those lacking adequate reasoning capabilities (which I believe forms a good portion of the world) would all be behaving immorally. However, we know this is not the case as immoral acts are the exception, rather than the norm. As I stated earlier, we tend to conform to laws and social expectations out of habit and this is what guides out actions.
