“How can the Organizational Behaviour concepts and theories you have learnt in the course make you more effective at school, home, work, and/or in other arenas of life? Use your personal and everyday examples to illustrate your reflections.” About 1000words
Organizational behavior the study of group and individual performance and activity in an organization. This examines human behavior in a work environment and determines its impact on job structure, performance, communication, motivation, leadership, etc.
It's theories and concepts are widely applied not only at the work place, but also in an individual's home and family life. Even in the learning phase of an individual, at school or colleges, one can see organizational behavior at work. A person is exposed to this early on in his life and to gain knowledge of it's various applications in real life can make personal and professional life more fruitful and successful.
Organizational behavior theory at work -
This theory is widely used by executives and human relations professionals in an organization to understand a business’s culture, how it can help or hinder productivity and employee retention and also in the evaluation of potential candidates' skills and personality during hiring
There are a few important components to this at the workplace level.
Personality- it plays a main role in the way a person interacts with groups during work. Understanding a candidate's personality, either through tests or through personal interview, helps determine whether they are good for the organization.
Leadership- It can be broad, focused, centralized or de-centralized, decision-oriented, intrinsic in a personality, or simply due to the position of authority.
Power- Power and authority operate inter-dependently in a workplace. Understanding the ways in which these are exhibited and used, as per the work place rules and ethics, are key components to running a cohesive and successful business.
Application of Organizational behavior theory at home-
Organizational Behavior is mainly about people in organizations and it covers a wide range of human behavior. As everyone is part of an organization while in the office and in most other places, it is therefore important to explore the roots of this which begin at a person's home.
When a person enters a family at birth, he quickly gains understanding of the knowledge of how relationships work, how families function and how to get things done in this context. He also gains an idea of the difficulties that families face. This is, to summarize, learning organizational behavior.
The main principles of organizational behavior have their roots in the dynamics of family life. For example: personality, values, moods and emotions, motivation and communication. All these are some principles at work in a family. These can be applied toward improving the family’s effectiveness. The individual, once he gains knowledge of these concepts , can make his family life more happy and content.
Organizational behavior theory in schools and education institutions-
In Schools and Colleges, teachers, principals, non-teaching
staff are individuals who work in that organization. They form
different teams in the form of committees and clubs etc.
Every
teacher is a member of one or the other teams. Each team has
specific and defined purpose. Members in teams influence one
another in different ways and teams thus develop
their own hierarchies and leaders. All these teaching and non
teaching staff interact within the structure of their own institute
individually and as a team. In fact there are other stakeholders
too who are also interacting and working in the organization such
as students, parents, government bodies etc. Together all these
different entities come together and under the theory and
principles of organizational behavior collaborate and work towards
the success and growth of the organization and also the benefit and
growth of all the stakeholders. An institution where organizational
behavior is successfully applied and followed is found to be more
dedicated and devoted to the excellence and all round growth of
it's students.
