. Discuss one side of a new policy (suggestion…open visiting hours; or now, limited or no visitors due to COVID). Choose one side and explain your point of view. What has been your own experience with your discussed policy?
I am working as a Registered nurse in a healthcare organization and a new policy of limited visitors to the hospital is being implemented on grounds of rapid spread of COVID 19. In my opinion this is a great policy as in case of a pandemic and community transmission of the disease such as COVID 19, it is critical that we operate with minimal interference and minimize the risk of spread of the pandemic at the healthcare facility. As we know the hospitals are the primary and most visited places in the current COVID 19 situation, the visitors except the emergency requirement of a family members is not advisable as there might be change of them getting infected and further disease spread. In case of COVID 19 we do not have a cure till date and the only way to reduce the new infection cases is to take precautions and avoid the unnecessary visits or visitors in the community and public places and in case of hospitals it becomes of prime importance. So when er restrict the number and duration of the visitors and patient visits we minimize the chances of spreading infection and also avid any nosocomial type of infection scenarios.
My experience with this policy is that, this policy implemented has been very helpful as the staff can function effectively with minimum interference form the visitors and large visitor crowd is being avoided thus reducing transission of infection from the hospital too. This helps in terms of reducing the pressure on the healthcare staff with larger crowds asking many questions and other obstacles that can have negative impact on quality care and effective treatment delivery methods. So in the hospital currently we have COVID 19 affected patient and in emergency cases a family member and the premises of the hospital are relatively empty which also helps to calm the staff and work peacefully with full focus towards healthcare delivery.
