Plan a days’ menu for a client using the Carbohydrate Counting method: The dietitian calculated that the client’s energy needs to maintain her weight is 2000 calories and the client wants to lose 1 pound per week. The dietitian determined that the client should consume about 1500 calories a day, 180 grams of carbohydrate (approximately 50% of calories). (4 pts)
  • Plan 3 meals plus one snack for the day.
    • 45-60 grams carbohydrate per meal
    • 15-30 grams for the snack.
    • (The above recommendations allow for a total of 180 grams in the day.)
  • Include 6 oz. protein food for the day. (Split this up between the meals)
  • Indicate the amount of carbohydrate per food item. Put “0” in where foods contain no carbohydrate. Do not leave any lines blank.

DO NOT use the sample meal plans in the booklet. They are examples only. You need to plan your own meals for a whole day that meets the criteria listed above.

Breakfast

Ezekiel bread tost, 2 slice ( 1 slice contain 15 gm of Carbohydrate , 4 gms of protein) 160 calories

Cementine 1 ( Carbohydrate: 9 gm, protein: 1gm) 35 calories

Hard boiled egg 1 ( 6gm of protein , carbohydrates: 1.1 gm) 77 calories

Total amount of Carbohydrate in Breakfast: 45 gm

Lunch :

Fresh mozarella wrap and tomato sauce 1wrap ( carbohydrates :70 gms, protein: 33 gms ) 600 calories

Total amount of Carbohydrate for lunch: 70gms

Snacks:

apple ,medium 1 ( Carbohydrate: 25 gm, protein: 0 .47) 95 calories

peanut butter 1 table spoon ( Carbohydrate: 3.5 gm, protein: 8 gms) 96 calories  

Total amount of Carbohydrate for snacks: 28.5 gm

Dinner :

Sheet pan Chicken fajita 1 serving ( Carbohydrate : 5 gm , protein: 24 gm) and

cooked brown rice 1/3 cup ( Carbohydrate: 17gm, protein: 1.8 gm )

Total dinner:   500 calories .

Total amount of Carbohydrate for Dinner: 22gm

Total amount of Carbohydrate for the day: 165 gm

Total calories per day = 1563 calories
