Nursing is involved in identifying its own unique knowledge base- that is the body of knowledge essential to nursing practice. To identify this knowledge base, nurses must develop & recognise concepts & throrith that are specific to nursing

Theory has been defined as a supposition or system of ideas that is proposed to explain a given phenomenon. Most undergraduate students are introduced to the major theories in their desciplines.Relationship between theory & practice is very strong in nursing. The term practice discipline is used for fields of study in which the central focus is performance of a professional role. Practice discipline are defferentiated from the descipline that have research and theory development as their central focus. In the practice disciplines, the main function of theory is to provide new possibilities for understanding the desciplines focus.

In the 19th century, Florence Nightingaes "Notes on nursing : What it is & what it is not was our first texttbook on home care and community health.

Nursing theory has been employed in a clinical setting, it's primary contribution has been the facilitation of reflection, questioning, and thinking about what nurses do. Because nurses & nursing practice are often subordinated to powerful institutional forces and tradition, the introduction of any framework that encourages nurses to reflect on, think about & question what they do provides an individual service. By using unique model in patient care leads in a standardized services without considering cast and creeds.

As an advanced practice registered nurse theoretical model isihelpful for recognising subtle pattern changes and cues that were indicative of untoward events in a critical patient. Moreover, multitude of impressive interventions can be made to preserve the dignity & humanity of vulnerable population of patients.

A philosophy is often an early effort to define Nursing phenomena & serves as the basis for later theoretical formulations. Examples of philosophies are those of Nightingale, Henderson & Whatson. The advancements in technology gives an environment that makes patient care more efficient. The implementation of on job training & New joiners inductioin programs in the health care settings improved the skill of the health care professionals which helped it become the respected field that we see today.
