  • One article was studying about the relationship between Post traumatic stress disorder and emotion dysregulation, conceptualized as negative affect intensity. It was found  that under-modulation of affect is associated with re-experiencing and hyperarousal of PTSD symptoms, it was hypothesized that these symptom clusters would be more strongly associated with the dimensions of emotion dysregulation assessed here i.e., affective lability and negative affect intensity.
  • Another study done focused on assessing individual differences in affect intensity using AIM.AIM is comprised of four weakly correlated factors: Positive Affectivity, Negative Reactivity, Negative Intensity and Positive Intensity or Serenity. It described that affect intensity refers to individual differences in the strength or intensity of people’s emotional experiences.
  • People who are high in affect intensity experience stronger emotions, display more frequent changes in mood, and show greater variability in their emotional states across time and situations than people who are low in affect intensity.
  • This is relevant in todays context as well since we all experience many emotional events all throughout our lives.Affect intensity is related to all the life events we consider, the degree of importance we place on a particular event will intensify our emotional reactions towards that event.
  • Affect intensity has been found related to many psychological disorders as well that involve intense emotions such as bipolar affective disorder, borderline personality disorder etc.
  • It also has studied with relation to consumer behaviour which can be used today as well by advertising agencies. An individuals reactions towards justice and unfairness as well as organizational conflict has been found related to affect intensity.
  • Articles that talk about the relationship between affect intensity and 3 dimensions of temperament—emotionality, sociability, and sensory arousability are important in understanding an individual's emotional reaction.
  • People who are highon emotionality react more strongly towards to highly emotional advertising appeals.
  • Affect intensity also has an influence on our lifestyle and personality as well. People high on affect intensity experience positive emotions than those who are low on affect intensity and are found to be more sociable with strong emotional reactions.
