1. What did you notice?

Answer:

-Small corridors usually don't fit the size of the wheelchair.

-Parking lots are challenging to get around.

-Limitation to visit every place because of unevenness on the road. Speedbrakers are also challenging.

-Dependency on your wheelchair pusher.

-The heaviness of a wheelchair that can't allow the person to hold your wheelchair to move in the rough surface.

-Inability to move fast as wheelchairs run with limited speeds(manual).

-People come and go in between your path causing discomfort.

-No separate roads for disabled persons.

2. Would you have any difficulties getting everywhere you want to go?

Answer:

  • You become dependable on your friends or family members for going anywhere. This makes a person dependable that is the most devastating feeling for that person(unless you hire someone).
  • In the case of a hand-driven wheelchair, wheels get easily tip off the route on uneven surfaces.
  • After continuous use in a manually driven wheelchair, the hands of the person get dry, irritated with blisters. So it puts limitations to visit faraway places.
  • Risk of getting struck on steep slopes.
  • Irritating horns of restless drivers.
  • Getting Stuck into Narrow Doors that make visits to any place more irritating.
  • The Race for Getting into the Lift.

So many limitations put forth in front of a disabled person for visiting any place.

3. What changes would you like to make in your community to benefit someone who uses a wheelchair? Why?

Answer:

The disabled person many challenges in their day to day life activities. To help them, some of the following measures should be made in society.

  • Corridors must be large enough to easily move in out wheelchair.
  • Allow the ground floor rooms for the disabled person to avoid discomfort to them.
  • Physical access includes things like accessible routes, curb ramps, parking and passenger loading zones, elevators, signage, entrances, and restroom accommodations.
  • Awareness regarding the minority population of a disabled person, their social and physical values.
