What is a megacity? Identify and describe two challenges megacities face because of their population size? Your response to this question should be in paragraph form, written in grammatically correct, and complete sentences. Use a word count of 200-250 words/a few paragraphs as a guide.
A megacity is a metropolitan city or area in a particular place that has a population of over ten million people or more in that paricular area. According to statistics of 2017 there are a total of 40 megacities as of this year and it is said to drastically increase in a few years. The largest megacity is Tokyo that is in Japan and the smallest is Chennai in India.
Although these statistics and numbers sound very productive megacitys can be quite demanding and testing. They can cause major problems environmentally and also take a toll on its population. The major challenges of megacities are firstlyis traffic conjestion. Due to higher number of people there are more number of vehicles which increase the traffic conjestion of that area. This traffic conjestion doesnt just stop there, it affects the environment which in turn affects the health of everyone breathing in that air. The pollution levels have drastically increased causing so . many uheard diseases to occur. On the long run it causes alot of problems. The traffic conjection also increases the commute time from place to place which can physicallly and mentrally stress people out. Also natural resources like fuel and gas are depleting due to the high consumption of the same.
The second challenge is that of homelessness and slums. Due to higher number of people per square feet in megacities there are less space for people to live therefore leaving alot of people homeless or the city explanding. Due to this there are alot of sqatters or slums that are both legally and illegally formed which causes alot of unhygenicareas within the cities as alot of drainage and other things are done in the open. There is no proper infrastructure and plumbing done. This causes the cities to be unorganized and people do not benefit from the situation.
Megacities sound interesting and very forward of our world but in a more accurate sense it is only take mankind a step backwards.
