What are the benefits described in the USP 800 safety updates?
USP 800 serves as a new standard to protects patient's healthcare personal and environment. It describes hazardous drug handling related to the receipt storage, administration, compounding, dispensing and disposal of both sterile and non sterile products and preparations. USP 800 provides no guidelines as to the credentials of the compounding supervisor nor whether the person has to be a pharmacy employee. But it can be reasonably expected that both organisational leaders and hospital pharmacy leaders would prefer this position to be within the pharmacy department. USP 800 section on storage shows a change from the guidency USP 797.Hazardous drugs that can be stored with other hazardous drug inventory -non antineoplastic hazardous drugs, reproductive risk only hazardous drug, final dosage forms of antineoplastic hazardous drugs .
Hazardous drugs that must be stored separately from other non hazardous drugs. -antineoplastic drugs or hazardous drugs API requiring manipulation other than counting final dosage forms, storing negative pressure room with at least 12 air changes per hour. USP 800allows sterile and non sterile hazardous drugs to be stored together. But only sterile hazardous drug may be stored in a negative pressure buffer room.
