i.Health protective behaviors are actions linked to decreasing risk factors, reducing negative health outcomes, and facilitating a healthy lifestyle. Health protective behaviors can be at the individual, familial, or community level, which all work together to eliminate risk factors that impair health.Actions that can be classified as health behaviors are many; examples include smoking, substance use, diet, physical activity, sleep, risky sexual activities, health care seeking behaviors, and adherence to prescribed medical treatments. Health protective behavious are essential for a healthy living
ii. Preventive health behavior (PHB), or “activity undertaken by a person who believes himself to be healthy for the purpose of preventing disease” , is one of the characteristics of a population which affects the frequency of visits to a doctor.The PHB proposes that the intention to protect oneself depends upon four factors: 1) the perceived severity of a threatened event – seriousness of a disease; 2) the perceived vulnerability – chance of contracting a disease; 3) the efficacy of the recommended preventive behavior – the perceived response efficacy: the analysis of benefits and barriers associated with the preventive health behavior; and 4) the perceived self-efficacy – e.g., the level of confidence in one’s ability to undertake
