The theory is important to the development of health promotion interventions as explain the dynamics of the behavior, ways and methods of changing the behavior, and the effects of external factors that can control the behavior. It can help us in developing an understanding of the targeted health behaviors. Theories help us during the various stages of planning, implementing, and evaluating an intervention as the program planners use theories to shape the pursuit of answers to why some people are or are not following public health and medical advice, they are not caring for themselves in healthy ways. It can pinpoint what needs to know before developing or organizing an intervention program. They can provide an insight into how we may shape the program strategies in order to reach people and organizations and make an impact. The Cognitive-Behavioral theory people develop alternative ways of thinking and behaving which leads to a reduction in their psychological distress.
