During the physical examination of your ankle injury you noted that the patient had considerable swelling, ecchymosis, and pain upon palpation at the proximal 5th metatarsal. You referred your patient to the Orthopedic surgeon for further assessment and radiographic imaging. please discuss the fracture type (Metatarsal Shaft Fracture) what radiographic evaluation is typical for this injury, what would be your acute treatment, follow-up and your definitive treatment.
• The Patient is suffering from swelling, ecchymosis and pain upon palpation at proximal 5th metatarsal, but the skin remains intact, this indicated the fracture is a type of close fracture. There is no bone displacement, so it is also denoted as non displaced fracture.
• Ankle radiography is typical for this injury.
• Acute treatment-
1. Cold compression should given to reduce swelling and pain.
2.weight bearing should be avoided at affected site.
3. Analgesic should be administered.
4.. Reduce mobility of the fracture site.
•Follow up treatment.

4. proper diet chart should be maintained.
5. Calcium containing food should be provided to the patient like milk, butter, milk products.
6. Protein rich food should be given.
7. cast condition or surgical site should be assessed at regular basis.
•Definitive treatment
1.Traction can be provided.
2. Cast can be provided.
3. Close reduction can be provided.
