Describe how you would increase ankle range of motion in a patient with a medial ankle sprain?

The patient has significant inflammation and range of motion is limited and painful in all directions.

Solutions

Expert Solution

MEDIAL ANKLE SPRAIN -

MEDIAL LIGAMENT of talocrural joint is attached above to apex and anterior and posterior to medial malleolus the ligaments are -

  • The tibiocalcaneal ligament,
  • The tibionavicular ligament
  • The posterior superficial tibiotalar ligament
  • The tibiospring ligament
  • The anterior tibiotalar ligament (ATTL)
  • The posterior deep tibiotalar ligament (PDTL)

the tear in a medial ligament or deltoid ligament is called a medial ankle sprain, and fracture associated with this ligament is called pott fracture

treatment

R EST is very important until proper healing has done

Ice therapy immediately to avoid edema but ice should not be applied directly it should be wrapped in a towel

C compression will protect the joint from further injury and avoid swelling

E elevation of limb encourage swelling and tissue move to another site then from the injured site, it reduces inflammation

EXERCISES

1. STRENGTH EXERCISE- mobility exercise should be started ,to increase range of movement ,do exercise with ealstic tubing

2. PROPIORECEPTION - BY WOBBLE BALANCR BOARD,It start after 5 week of injury

Range of ankle motion is a contributing factor to falls among the elderly. Suppose a team of researchers is studying how compression hosiery, typical shoes, and medical shoes affect range of ankle motion. In particular, note the variables Barefoot and Footwear5 (FW5). Barefoot represents a subject's range of ankle motion (in degrees) while barefoot, and Footwear5 (FW5) represents their range of ankle motion (in degrees) while wearing compression hosiery and medical shoes. An athlete complains about medial ankle pain. On observation you notice increased pes planus on the injured side. You assess the athlete as having tibialis posterior tendinitis. How would you modify your ankle tape job to support this injury?
