Your patient has suffered a minor electrical injury at home and is being seen by you in the office. You have determined he is stable and does not require transfer to ER, but you would like to order some common lab work ups. In 200 words or less, explain what labs you would order and why.
In case of a patient who received a minor electrical injury and who is stable do require to transfer to ER. However they require to go through some lab work. The below are the lab that may required for this type of patient:
1. CBC Count: The complete blood count including the hemoglobin, hematocrit and white blood cell need to be mesured.
2. Electrolytes: The potassium, sodium, chloride, carbon dioxide, blood urea nitrogen and blood glucose need to be assessed.
3. Creatinine: The creatinine lavel need to be assessed as the risk of rhabdomyolysis and myogloburia in there in case of electrical injuries. As per the recent studies there is risk for renal failure is there in this type of patients.
4. Urinalysis: Assess values for specific gravity and PH and hemoglobin. If the urinalysis is positive for hemoglobin the risk of hematuria and myoglobinuria is there.
5. Serum myoglobin: If the urine is positive for myoglobin, the serum level should be assessed.
6. Arterial blood gas.
4. Creatine Kinase level
