What are the sociological effects of teaching boys to create a "guise" in order to become tough "guys?"
'Tough Guise' was a video in which Jackson Katz is seen telling people about how people are constructing a wrong image for boys by teaching them 'tough guise'. This affects boys in a negative manner, giving out violent, sexist, and homophobic messages. Such guise teaches boys that they are not supposed to cry and that boys are supposed to be tough, independent, athletic, stud, etc. What happens to those that do not fall into that category? They are called a queer, weak, sissy, wimp, etc. Boys who do not conform to tough guy standard are bullied, laughed at, made fun of. Social media and consumer products also promote this kind of image. This guise is leading men to be more physical and aggressive owing to all rape, murder, school shootouts, delinquency, domestic abuse, etc. Men are become less of a human with no emotion, and with no honest portrayal of what a human being is and more trapped in the cage called ‘tough guy image’.
