Sociological imagination is the way of thinking about a topic not just from our individual perspective, but also from various societal perspectives, for example cultural, biological, historical etc. This kind of exercise can be quite useful in various fields including nursing, as well. The profession of nursing requires a deep focus on well being of the individual (patient), families, and society at large. This requires the nurse to take care of the needs of the patient, do what is necessary for medical relief and be aware of the risks and dangers arising out of the medical situation of the patient. In such a situation, the nurse has to think and assess all possible risks, opportunities, threats associated with the medical condition of the patient. Sociological imagination will be prove to be quite an effective tool in the nursing profession. The benefits of sociological imagination could be easily realised in the nursing profession, as it enables the nurses to realise and analyse a situation, problem from a broader perspective. It enables the nurse to decide their course of action after observing things from a vantage point and thus making an informed and judicious decision.
