Discuss the history of microbiology with an emphasis on the main historical figures and their discoveries. You will describe how these discoveries have shaped our understanding of microbiological organisms.
Instructions:
Step 1: Respond to the following:
The development of the microscope in the 1600's was the starting point for the study of Microbiology. The science of Microbiology and our understanding of the Germ Theory of Disease has led to significant advances in antimicrobial therapy. Since the discovery of penicillin, we have seen an exponential growth in antibiotic production, which has dramatically increased our ability to treat infectious disease. It has also led to the advent of antibiotic resistance. Answer the following questions.
1. The discovery of penicillin and antibiotic therapy changed the health of the society . Until then people were dying of bacterial diseases and septicemia and complications of the diseases . After the penicillin discovery and large scale production it transformed the pharmaceutical industry and it's clinical therapy changed the insight for treatment of infectious diseases. It was the starting point for discovery of other antibiotic drugs.
Today numerous amount of antibiotics have been found and is been in use to fight enormous bacterial diseases and it safeguards the people from morbidity and mortality.
2. The morbidity and mortality rates have been brought to a very low value due to the various antibiotic spectrum of penicillin.
For example - Penicillin therapy for rheumatic fever have decreased the mortality rate fourfold to its previous untreated state .
3. Even though antibacterial soap can kill harmful bacteria it has been found that they cause antibiotic resistance and also kills harmless good bacteria in the skin . It also alters the normal physiology of the skin.
So normal soaps with disinfectant properties are enough to use . It is not expensive like antibacterial soaps and it does not alter the normal physiology of the skin.
