The following are the self-imposed and environmentally imposed risks to younger adults can contribute to the development of respiratory conditions in later life:
Self imposed risks to younger adults:
1. Smoking: Smoking in the younger adults starts with false sense of glamor, curiosity and peer pressure in schools, colleges, etc. What starts are a hobby translates into addiction by self-imposed smoking habits. The smoking can include cigarettes, weeds, etc which can affect into the detrimental impacts on development of serious respiratory conditions in later life.
2. Ignorance towards allergies and asthma: Any young adults who do not actiely seek the medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for the allergy and asthma conditions which in the adult life can have a significant impact on heath and quality of life in performing day to day activities.
3. Unhealthy dietary and irregular exercise regimen: The younger adults in the current generation are leaning towards sedentary activities like gaming, indoor games, binge-watching television which has been affecting their physical activity and development of strong lung and respiratory functions as they rarely undergo running or cardio exercises. This is also compounded with unhealthy eating habits which causes obesity and affects the active lifestyle in a negative way. All this culminates into the development of major respiratory health conditions in the adult life.
Environmentally
imposed risks to younger adults::
1. Air
pollution: The environment around us especially the
air we breathe affects out lung function and propensity of
respiratory illness in a major way. The area where the young adult
live such as industrial locality, heavy traffic areas, etc can have
release of hazardous gases into the exhaust and industrial
pollutant such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxides, particulate
matters can affect the young adult early in their life. This early
exposure to the polluted air can have foundational impact on
development of respiratory disorder in the future adult life.
2. Passive smoking: Smoking is always the major factor for respiratory disease but if the smoking is in passive state, smoked by parents and family members can causes passively ingestion of smoke by the young adults. This passive smoking can indeed not only cause risk to respiratory disease but also lead to an indirect promotion to smoking habits and addiction. This smoking in passive and later active form can lead to the development of sever respiratory conditions which cab reduce the span and quality of life.
3. Ozone and nitrogen oxide pollutants: The gases such as ozone and nitrogen oxide are generated due to photo chemical reaction sin the environment and release of exhaust gases by the vehicular emissions. So, ozone in reaction with nitrogen oxide can lead to generation of strong oxidants which can severely impact the lung functions which can cause lipid peroxidation and stress signalling in the body. These major gaseous environmental pollutants can severely alter the respiratory disease development leading to a major diseases development in the future adult life.
