Three reasons why US doesnt have a universal health
coverage:-
One of the main reasons is the political culture prevalent in
US.Americans are more individualistic. They believe classical
liberalism, meaning, that the government should play a limited role
in society. And because universal coverage clashes with this belief
of limited government involvement and individualism,it has never
been able to be applied in America.
Second reason is the role of interest groups in influencing
political process. The insurance industry spend millions on shaping
ACA,as opposed to the government. These interest groups do not want
a comprehensive national coverage of health making it a public
reform and keep it privatized.
Third reason is that America's political institutions make it
difficult to implement any massive entitlement programs in the
country.Political institutions are biased against this
comprehensive reform and any attempts have to go through congress
meetings, budget limitations, amendments etc. while the opposition
prepares to fight against the bill.
The reasons are particularly are political in nature. The
culture is highly individualistic, favoring personal over government
responsibility; lobbyists are active and dominant, spending
billions to ensure that private insurers maintain their upperhand
in the health system; and also our institutions have been designed
in a manner which limits major social policy changes from happening
in the country.
