Who are vulnerable? Discuss who would be considered vulnerable and mention a variety of groups. Introduce another group of individuals who would be considered vulnerable and why. Give examples of the special health needs of this population.
Vulnerable population are group of individuals and Communities who are at higher risk for poor health. They experience barriers in social , Economic , political and environment resources , and face limitations due to illness and disability. The vulnerability of these individuals are enhanced by race , age , sex and other Factors like income , social factors including housing , poverty and inadequate education.
GROUPS - 3 CATEGORIES
1. POPULATION PHYSICAL NEEDS - High risk mother , infants , chronically disabled and I'll , person with HIV , diabetes , hypertension.
2. PSYCHOLOGICAL-. Vulnerable population with chronic mental conditions like bipolar disorder , Schizophrenia, substances abuse , major depression.
3. SOCIAL -. It includes refugees , homeless people , immigrants , abusive families.
Another group- vulnerable group in a geographical community such as prisoners and native Americans, in which all individuals are indeed vulnerable whether the risk be physical violence or exposure to disease. They are not refer as vulnerable population but are uniquely vulnerable as they do not have access to health care facilities and when some natural disasters or emergency like wars etc occurs the entire geographical population may become vulnerable to disease or death.
Special health needs of vulnerable population-
1. Special primary health and speciality care needs like medical, dental and other behavioural health care services.
2. Providing free health care services and insurance coverage and low cost treatment.
3. Services like transportation, street and shelter outreach and opening the primary health centre in backward areas.
4.providing access to all health care facilities with no discrimination and it should be comply with laws by enhancing the policies like Affordable care act , Federally qualified health centre to improve the quality of health care.
