Compare vulnerable populations. Describe an example of one of these groups in the United States or from another country. Explain why the population is designated as "vulnerable." Include the number of individuals belonging to this group and the specific challenges or issues involved. Discuss why these populations are unable to advocate for themselves, the ethical issues that must be considered when working with these groups, and how nursing advocacy would be beneficial.
Vulnerable group us refers to the group of people or communities who are at a higher risk for developing any illness and there mortality rate is high.
According to WHO the vulnerable groups are -
- pediatric group,
- geriatric group,
- pregnant women,
- malnourished people,
- people who are ill or immune compromised.
The pediatric population are one of the vulnerable groups in India.
The childer are more vulnerable group for growing any disease as they are in a growing stage and the have a little control over there environment. They consume more food, more air and water than the adults so, there is a chance to consume no micro-organils. The also have no or a little knowledge about personal hygiene, health care system, symptoms of illness and most while the depends on the parents and elders. So they are one of the vulnerable group.
According to 2011 census India's total pediatric population was 16 crore and among then about 25% of them are leave in urban communities and 75% are leave rural population.
The specific chalanges that has to handle by the children population are =
i) The main health problem for the pediatric groups is various communicable diseases like as diarrhoea, lower and upper respiratory tract infections, skin infections, chicken pox etc.
ii) The another main health problem is congenital disorders like as congenital heart diseases, cleft leap, cleft pallet, epispedias, hypospedias etc.
iii) Another problem is malnutrition like as Protein energy malnutrition Marasmus, kwashoirkor, anemia, xeropthalmia etc.
These are some of the main diseases that occurs in Indian pediatric groups.
Theses population are unable to advocate for them as the children had not develop a sufficient thinking ability, knowledge about the future outcome of any situation. This time period is to grow the self advocacy among the children so that in future they can properly take their own decision and explain their own problem properly to others.
The ethical issues that must be considered when working with the children population are =
- a good IPR ( interpersonal relationship) has to form at first with the child whome we handling.
- privacy has to maintain during handling the children.
- all children has to provide a same standard quality care.
- their self respect has to maintain.
- they has to call by there name and identity.
Nurses can advocate the children by various ways. Like as proper hospitalization of them, make a right decision for them, participating the children who are able in their own care. The legal guidelines has to maintain during handling the children.
