In Chapter 9, Kurt Lewin describes a process for dealing with change. Give some examples from your own life of how you dealt with change, whether you were the change agent or were affected by the change. How did you deal with it? If the change process did not follow Kurt Lewin's process, would the change have been easier to make if it did?
Soln. Kurt Lewin describes the change process as a three step process - Unfreeze, Change and Freeze. Unfreeze makes the people aware of the change and its benefits. Change process implements the change. Finally, Freeze process, makes the change permanent in the organization.
Example: In my organization, recently, the legacy ITSM tool got replaced with ServiceNow, which is an enterprise wide cloud based ITSM tool. The change process exactly follows the concept provided by Kurt Lewin. I was affected by this change as I was among one of the users of this new ITSM tool. To start with, I have understood the new application and its benefits from the experts. I got myself prepared and ready for the change. After this, I have monitored the change process closely and waited for the application to go live. After its implementation, started using the new tool.In beginning, it was little bit difficult to get used to this new application but gradually, I got used to it and finally I made the application permanent for all of my usage.I got benefit in many aspects. I believe, the change would not have been so smooth and effective, if it had not followed Kurt Lewin's process.
