5) What are the social and political forces that are associated with inequality in health services and health status?
1).
The income of an individual affects both the physical and psychological health of an individual. High income or adequate income positively affects the lifestyle and thus, the health of an individual. Although income is not the only factor that affects health, it plays a key role in maintaining the health of a family. Poverty is the risk factor for morbidity and premature death. Poor health status leads to poverty and low rate of economic growth.
During the past three decades, the average income of most of the individuals raised and led to income inequalities in several countries, including the United States. This unequal income distribution poses further risk to the individual health in the society as the individual income is directly related to the income inequality. Unequal wealth distribution, social and cultural assets, political power are also the key determinants of individual health.
In this scenario, the policymakers and the public health community have to concern about the distribution of income among the public and reduce the poverty through economic growth, which results in improved health of the individuals.
