Pencillin G Benzathine-

  • Determine history of hypersensitivity reactions to pencillins,cephalosporins,or other allergens prior to initiation of drug therapy.
  • Perform periodic renal function test
  • Advise the patient not to breast feed the baby while taking the medicine.

Pencillin G Potassium

  • Periodic assessment of organ system function,including frequent evaluation of electrolyte balance,hepatic ,renal and hematopoietic systems and cardiac and vascular status should be performed.
  • It should be used cautiously in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to pencillin or the cephalosporins.
  • The nurse should observe the patient closely for hypersensitivity reaction.

Pencillin V Potassium

  • It should be used cautiously in patients with a history of or suspected allergy.
  • Advise the patient to discontinue medication and promptly report physician the onset of hypersensitivity reactions and superinfections if they occur.

Dicloxacillin

  • It should be used cautiously with a history of sensitivity of pencillin.
  • The nurse ahould advise the patient that antibiotic medications can cause diarrhea,which maybe a sign of new infection.

Nafcillin

  • It should generally not be administered to patients with a history of sensitivity to any pencillin
  • Pencillin should be used with caution in individuals with histories of significant allergies.

Oxacillin

  • It should be used cautiously since this medication contains sodium .This could affect the patient if they are on a salt-restricted diet or if if the patient has a condition which could be worsened with an increased in salt intake.
  • The nurse can explain that,if the diet permits,yoghurt,buttermilk or Acidophilus capsules may be taken to reduce the risk of fungal superinfection.

Amoxicillin

  • Report onset of generalized ,erythematous,maculopapular rash to physician.
  • Report onset of diarrhea and other possible symptoms of superinfection to physician.
  • Do not breastfeed while taking this drug without consulting physician.

Ampicillin

  • Use cautiously with renal disorders.
  • The nurse should advise the patient to report chills,wheezing,pruritus,respiratory distress to physician immediately.

Ampicillin Sulbactam

  • A high percentage of patients with mononucleosis who recieve ampicillin develop a skin rash.Therefore ampicillin class antibiotics should not be administered to patients with mononucleiosis.
  • The nurse should telll the patient that diarrhea is a common problem caused by antibiotics which usually ends when the antibiotic is discontinued.

Amoxicillin and Clavulanate potassium

  • It should be used cautiously with expectant mothers and a high percentage of patients with mononucleosis who recieve ampicillin develop an erythematous skin rash.
  • Therefore ampicillin-class antibiotics should not be administered to patients with mononucleosis.

Piperacillin Sodium and Tazobactum sodium

  • It should be used cautiously with diets consisting of no salt/sodium intake.
  • Advise patient to report signs of superinfection.
  • Cution patient to notify health care professional if fever and diarrhea occur.
  • Advise patient not to treat diarrhea without consulting health care professional
