What characteristics would lead a provider to suspect domestic violence, child abuse, or elder abuse is taking place within a family? Discuss your facility's procedure for reporting these types of abuse.

Domestic violence that was begins with threats or verbal minor assaults and the victim attempt to comply with the request of the abuser. The victim feel trapped, helpless, dependant. They may become depressed as they are trapped in the abuser power and control cycle. As victim self esteem become diminished with chronic abuse they may blame themselves for the violence and unable to see a way out of the situation.

Our facility has asked to report suspected or child abuse to appropriate authorities and has provided certain intervention to follow if such a case is observed.

It includes:

  • Assess for evidence of physical injuries.
  • Ensuring privacy and securely during the procedure.
  • Assisting the victim to develop self protective and problem solving abilities.
  • Provide support in coping by contacting the legal system.
  • Assisting in resolving family dysfunction with prescribed treatment.
  • Assist the family to recognize an access to community and personal wealth.
  • Maintenance of accurate of medical health records.
