What type of research is data mining and what are the applications of data mining in Health Informatics?

Select one:

A. Primary study

B. Secondary study

C. Tertiary study

2. If you were to study the level of anxiety that this final exam causes for all of you, which of the following would you be the most concerned about in the measures you develop?

Select one:

A. power

B. p value

C. correlation coefficients

D. confidence interval

3. If you believe that cancer is best treated with a holistic approach with no chemicals or radiation, what type of research would you be drawn to in order to substantiate what you believe?

Select one:

A. ecological studies

B. experimental studies

C. case-control studies

D. survey studies

4. A large research study is looking at which factor is most associated with obesity: income, exercise, or food consumption. Which of the following research designs would LEAST allow the researchers to determine this most effectively?

A. tertiary studies

B. factor analytic studies

C. ecological studies

D. case-control studies

5. Assume that you are part of a wellness group who want to make an hour of physical activity mandated for staff in a hospital each time they go on duty. You want to develop a study that offers evidence that they benefit from such activity. Which do you want to avoid asserting from any evidence you develop?

Select one:

A. that the results are probably related to the staff’s physical activity and family supports outside of the school as well as in-school activity

B. that the results can be generalized to all hospital staff

C. that the results should be looked at over time rather than as a single measure

D. that the results might be different if you changed the time of the physical activity

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. A. Primary Study

Health information includes the advanced techniques of technology that complies and analysis of the data. Big data is the analysis of data sets such as electronic Health records, billing records, CPT codes, medication records etc. Data mining is used to extract the particular type of data from the data sets. The analyst should obtain clearance from the institution required for the primary studies. The primary study increases the gain of the knowledge. The primary study helps for the basic level of study with the medical data at all levels.

2. D. Confidence interval

The anxiety is a disorder caused by the sympathetic nervous system stimulation. The anxiety level can be high during the performance of certain activities like students having anxiety during the exams time. Usually, it is measured by using Westside Test Anxiety Scale. The confidence interval relieves pressure on the exams and shows fairer in about 95% of the students.

3. C. Case-control studies

Two case-control studies were undertaken in the advanced cancer patients which have shown no benefit with the holistic approach and no improvement in the quality of life. Further, it may delay the treatment process and it's often expensive. So, the cancer patients cannot be treated only with the holistic approach as per this studies.

4. B. Factor-analytic study

The factor-analytic study helps to find the correlation and factors associated with the obesity. The various factor analysis such as height, weight, and other indices are taken into account. Intercorrelations between the analyses can also be determined. The results show strong empirical evidence.

5. A.  that the results are probably related to the staff’s physical activity and family supports outside of the school as well as in-school activity.

The physical activity should support and encourage the staffs. The opportunities and time should be encouraged the staffs to participate in the physical activity. Support staff should be more physically active. The physical activity should benefit both the staff and the organization.
