Name the methods employed in animal breeding. According to you which of the methods is best? Why?
Animal breeding is selective mating of animals to increase the possibility of obtaining desired traits in the offspring. The methods employed in breeding are,
A)Natural methods:It includes inbreeding and outbreeding .Breeding between animals of the same breed is known as inbreeding, while breeding between animals of the different breed is outbreeding.Outbreeding involves Outcrossing,Cross breeding,Interspecific hybridisation.
B)Artificial Methods:It includes modern technologies ,
1)Artifial insemination:It is the process of introducing the semen into the uterus of the female body by the breeder. This methods helps to overcome certain problems faced in abnormal breeding.
2)Multiple ovulation embryo technology:It is a technique for cattle improvement in which super ovulation is induced by hormone injection.thus fertilisation is acheived by artificial insemination and embryos are collected.each of these embryos are then transplanted into the surrogate mother for further development of the embryo.
