Name three endangered animal species in Florida.
Endangered species in Florida are:
i. American Alligator: Alligataor mississippiensis was first listed as endangered species in 1966. Hunting is regarded as the main reason for reduction of population of American alligator
ii. Florida panther: Felis concolor coryi or Fluorida panther was listed as endangered species in 1967. Loss and degradation of habitat is the main reason for endangering of Florida panther
iii. Manatee: Tricheus manatus laterostris or Manatee is being endangered because it cannot survive in water that has temperatures below 17 0C.
iv. American crocodile: Crocodylus acutus is also listed undered endangered species as they are widely hunted for their hides, habitat loss, hunting etc.
v. Tree cactus: Pilosocereus robinii is native to the Florida and listed under endangered species due to loss of habitat
vi. Loggerhead seaturtles: Caretta caretta is also an endangered species due to their commercial trade, usage of untended fishing gear. Fishing trawls usage also led to death of these turtles due to suffocation
vii. Piping plover: Charadius melodus are also on the verge of extinction and hence classified as endangered due to excessive predation.
