1) How does onboarding improve employee performance and
workforce retention?
Ans:....
Onboarding extends right from the initial job offer till the
employee becomes productive in the company. A well executed
onboarding program raises employee retention and productivity. The
company must have a well planned onboarding program and a
favourable impression must be created on the new hires. The time
between giving an offer and when an employee joins is crucial as
they might be looking at other options. Sending a welcome gift or
announcing joining bonus can be ways to make them choose you. Ample
time must be given for employee orientation and it is the duty of
superiors to make the new hire comfortable. The new hires must be
given attention and regular feedback and facilities must be created
to improve their learning.
In addition small things like knowing if they are uncomfortable
with something or if they want some changes in schedule and
offering more freedom and flexibility can go a long way in
improving their retention and performance. Additionally they can be
encouraged to learn new things and clear their doubts from fellow
employees.
2) Which types of instructional strategies would work best at your
current (or previous) employer? Why?
Ans:......
Providing reading material, conversations with peers, visual
learning tools, teaching by managers etc are some of the
instructional strategies that work best. Providing reading material
to the employees is the easiest way to get the required learning in
an employee. Care must be taken to see that the reading material is
prepared by highly efficient and effective managers and that the
material is easily understandable.
In addition, the employees must be encouraged to clear their doubts
from superiors and to get additional learning from their colleagues
Having interactie visual aids and learning tools will make the
learning process easier. In addition, managers can be encouraged to
take classes to their teams. This will enable the team members to
get a clear understanding of their duties and what is expected of
them
