Describe a primary production mechanism (energy / nutrients / non-photosynthetic) in the ocean depths.
In the depth, solar energy cannot reach and hence photosynthesis cannot take place at the depth of the ocean. So there must be different mechanism for the energy production at the death. How it is possible? There are various ways to which link vings obtain or produce energy.
As it is clear that the solar energy cannot reach to the depth, only red light can pass, so, red algae survive because it has r-phycoerythrin as pigment. This solar energy is transformed into thermal energy which plays crucial role for energy production. The other means that there is regular tides and storms happens in the ocean, that will become energy source.
But, to harvest the energy for luvings, how's it possible?
You've already known that there are various phytoplankton and zooplankton in the ocean. These are small floating plants and animals. Phytoplankton, which photosynthesise and plays role in energy fulfilment, whether the zooplankton on which the heterotrophs depend for energy requirement.
There is another way also, when some of Livings die, the nutrient recycling take place and its a way also of energy and nutrient recycling and production.
